Alien invasives (black wattle and rooikranz in particular) are infesting large tracts in De Hoop Nature Reserve and compromising the existing indigenous vegetation is countless ways. Although Cape Nature are expected to manage this, it is not happening due to budgetary cuts and other challenges.

Lekkerwater are initiating an alien plant species eradication project to mitigate an infestation of black wattle and rooikranz, and for the benefit of the indigenous fauna and flora.
